WORKING BEE'S

With the start of the karting year fast approaching we need to have a couple of working bees to get the complex back into first class shape.  Weeds are a real hassle at the moment, the weather is really producing lots of potent weeds which seem to come back no matter how much weed killer we spray.  So the following dates are working bees and we will require people to bring wipper snippers, lawn mowers and gloves.  These working bees will be all about getting the complex ready for the first clubday and the Victoria Open Championship which will be held between March 7 - 11, 2012.   So please help us get the complex into peak condition for the new season.  The dates and times of the working bees are as follows:

SATURDAY 7th January 2012

9am to 2pm

SATURDAY 14th January 2012

9am to 2pm

NOTE :  During the above times no karts will be allowed on the circuit under any circumstances.  So please dont ask!  After 2pm the track will be open for practise as normal.

STOLEN KART

In very unfortunate news Dave Hattons kart and engine have been stolen from his place of work.   His kart is a Monaco GP4 and had a Yamaha S engine bolted onto it at the time.  Dave's kart is fitted with the destinctive yellow body work that is his trade mark look and as such is very recognisable.  If anyone has anyone information about this theft contact a club official or ring Dominic on 0425 707 525.  If you know Dave please give him a call on his mobile or ask a club official for his number.

VICTORIAN OPEN

The Victorian Open Championships are set to be held at Geelong on the dates of March 9-11, 2012.  This is the biggest event on the karting calendar and requires a massive amount of planning and work to be completed for smooth running of the event.  Dennis and Dom have been planning the event for the past six months already with the VKA officials and now is the time to offer up your services as a volunteer on any given days of the event.  There are already several persons who have volunteered to help out in the canteen and with other jobs but many more will be needed.  Please contact a club official and offer your support for this major event which provided the club with so much financial benefit.  As part of the event the scruteneering and scale shed will be extended by several meetings prior to the event and this area will be transformed into a sealed more professional engine measuring area.  Portable stewards rooms, portable toilets, back up generators etc have already been organised for the five practise and race days of the event.  So please remember to offer your help prior to and during this event.

FEBRUARY CLUBDAY 2012

February clubday will be the first for Geelong Kart Club in 2012.  The club believes that parents and children alike need a decent break from karting and a January clubday is too soon!   Please remember that Feb Clubday will be huge with the Vic Open only two weeks later.  Many visitors will be attending to get practise in for the event.  A $10.00 non member fee will apply on this date so if you have friends from other clubs racing please let them know that this one day membership fee will apply to them unless they join the club.

CLUB MEMBERSHIPS

There are still many members who have not renewed their club memberships.  Remember that they will all expire on the 31/12/2011.  As of this date your swipe access will be revoked and your AKA license will not be valid.  You will not be able to use the track under any circumstances.  Contact Dominic on 0425 707 525 will any questions.  Also remember that to renew your AKA license you need to have at least three months of valid club membership left!   If you delay renewing your license for more than 28 days from the expiry the AKA charge a penalty $20.00 as well, and you dont gain any extra time on your license.  So get your club membership renewal in now!

November Club Day -

The November Club Day will be a special event aimed at giving our members some practise for the Victorian Open which Geelong will host in March 2012.
The normal 5 minute practise session in the morning will be a qualifying session and grid positions for the first two heats will be guided by the results of qualifying.
A long 15 lap final will determine the winner for the day. All points from all heats and final will count towards the club championship as per normal. There will be BBQ at the end of the day and of course the bar will be open.

Emma has arranged a Christmas hamper which will be drawn also.
Come on down and support the event!

Working Bee: Saturday 12th November, 2011 -

Grass, weeds and more weeds.
The recent weather has lead to surge in growth of weeds etc. All year a few members have saved the club money by mowing grass, weeding and the complex has looked picture perfect until October clubday where bad weather made it impossible to clean up before the weekend of racing.
Dominic , Hamish Carr, Chris and Colin Trotter put in a big day on Thursday, mowing the entire complex, inside and out and spraying an incredible 700 litres of week killer.
The circuit is looking pretty good again but still needs another working bee to finish things off and get us ready for the future. We need members to turn up with whipper snippers, edgers and gloves for pulling weeds out.
Lunch will be provided.

** The Track will be closed on the day of the working bee.
