OPEN TAG 125 PRO TO REMAIN ON MG YELLOWS FOR GEELONG CLUB DAYS

After talking with members of the club who will be racing Open TAG 125 it has been decided to leave the class on the MG Yellow tyre.  The recent decision by the AKA to put the open Tag class on MG Reds has not been recieved well by members intending to race the class and as such the above decision has been made.  With a number of drivers making the transition from Tag restricted this year the class promises to be exciting and fast as well.  So take them restrictors out, bolt on those nice soft yellows and get ready to have some fun!

ROTAX PRO TOUR IS GO AND THERE IS A SPECIAL GUEST RACING AT GEELONG

Dominic has been working with Ian Black from IKD to ensure the 2010 Rotax Pro Tour Round 1 at Geelong is ready to rumble.  We can also confirm that current V8 Supercar driver Jason Richards will be racing the Rotax DD2 class.  He will race the Geelong round only and this will of course be very exciting for all concerned to have a house hold name racing at our club.  The Pro Tour will put the spotlight fair and square on the Geelong Kart Club and showcase what a great facility we have.

GEELONG CITY COUNCIL GIVE GEELONG KART CLUB THE THUMBS UP!

Dominic met with a council official at the circuit today who inspected our facilities focusing on the kitchen and toilets.  The Kart Club was given high praise for the clean state of our equipment and much praise should go to our canteen co-ordinator Carol Hogan who maintains a spic and Span kitchen for all of us.  The club continues to set high standards for itself and all members should be happy in the knowledge that our venue is held in high regard by our local officials.

JUNIOR PERFORMANCE SET FOR GEELONG CLUBDAYS

In line with other clubs and open meetings Junior Performance will be offered on Geelongs clubdays.  The AKA and VKA websites and 2010 rule book explain the engines that can race in this class which should be exciting to watch with all the various equipment that is eligible.

CLUB MEMBERSHIPS ARE DUE NOW!

Please remember that you cannot use the circuit under any circumstances unless your have renewed your club membership.  Any one doing so and placing the club at risk will face action from the club.  No membership means no valid license which means no insurance coverage for anyone!  Please contact Dominic on 0425 707 525 or email dom.1971@live.com if you did not receive a renewal letter which was sent to all members approx four weeks ago.

Important Information For Drivers Wanting To Race Open Tag 125 In 2010

At a recent meeting the AKA have changed the tyre that Open Tag will race on in 2010.  The previous tyre was the MG Yellow as used in Leopard and F100.  In 2010 the tyre that will be used is the Mg Red which is currently used in clubman.  This change has just been made by the AKA , but has not been publicised very well.  For all those considering this class at Geelong clubdays please take note of this change.  The AKA have published weights for each type of engine to be used.  In line with these weights Geelong Kart club will be offering a pro class.  Weights for Leopard , fireball and cheetah will be 170 kgs whilst weights for X30 and Rotax 125 will be 175 kgs.

Remember To Have a Safe and Fun Holiday Season And We Will See You At The Track In 2010!

Dont Forget To Renew Your Club Memberships

Remember it has never been more important to renew your club membership early than in 2010.  With the new AKA smart card race system being run at all clubs in 2010 unless your club membership is up to date,  your smartcard license will not be valid to enter any race meetings!  So please get your memberships back to Dominic so that he can update the AKA license program with your details and also the club membership database.  Remember also that when the new eletronic gates are installed early in the year you will not recieve the new swipe entry card unless you are a paid up member.  Your membership ceases to be active as of 01/01/2010.

Rotax Pro / Tag Pro / Tag Restricted Pro For Clubdays In 2010

Geelong Kart Club is looking to spice up the level of competition on a club day in 2010.  Instead of have 3 lights and 4 heavies for example we wont to see one good field combined which is more attractive to all concerned.  Rotax drivers will now race pro @ 170 kgs on a clubday which will be the same as the Victorian All Stars Series will offer.  Tag Pro which is a rule book class which allows all the various 125's to run together will be offered at 170 kgs as will tag restricted 125 which ran successfully in 2009.

Open Class Equipment For Club Day At Geelong

With the re emergence of KZ2 ( gearbox ) and 200 Supers after Horsepower Heaven any persons with this style of equipment  including Rotax DD2 will be able to fine tune their equipment on a clubday at Geelong running at the front of another class.  These exciting machines will be a real bonus to watch for our members when they appear now and then and are sure to ignite some interest from the fence as they scream around the track.  It is envisaged that some of our members that are going to race this type of kart in bigger meetings will use the occassional clubday to test their machinery.  We look forward them at Geelong.

Record License Holders For Geelong Kart Club

On Thursday the 10/12/2009 at the December Victorian Karting Association delegates meeting the official membership license figures for all clubs were tabled.  Geelong has increased its membership the most of any club and by a very long way.  At the end of 2008 Geelong had approximately 145 license holders.  As of 10/12/09 we are an incredible 225.  Thats a record for the club.  Things are looking bright at Geelong.

Mandatory Purchase Of Transponders By 01/07/2010 For All License Holders

In what will be not the most popular news for our members the Australian Kart Association has made it mandatory for all license holders to purchase their own transponder by 01/07/2010.  To make matters worse drivers will not be allowed to share transponders either.  That means a family of three will have to purchase three units.  Each unit has been priced by the AKA at $280.00 .   Geelong, unlike most clubs has owned its own transponders for many years and will continue to do so.  Whilst our license holders will be forced to purchase transponders to race for example the Vic Open in February, the club will try its best to utilise our resources to assist those persons who predominantly race club day.  Watch this space for further information.

Geelong Granted Approval To Run Club Days In Opposite Direction!

On Saturday 12/12/2009 the VKA track inspector granted Geelong permission to run club day race meets in the opposite direction subject to some minor alterations.  This is fantastic news for the club members where we will all get the chance to race a couple of times a year on literally a different circuit.  It should really add some spice to the club days and plenty of notice will be given to all members when it is intended to race in the opposite direction on this website.  It is envisaged that practise in the month before opposite direction club days will also in the opposite direction.  Stay tuned to this web site for further updates!

Horsepower Heaven the Series Round One to be at Geelong On Saturday 27/02/2010.

Dominic and Remo Luciani are promoting the hot shoe series of 2010, incorporating performance classes such as KZ2 ( gearbox ) 200 Supers, Leopard light and Heavy, Formula 100 light and Heavy and now Junior Performance!  This four round super series featuring Australia's best will kick off at Geelong on the Saturday before the first clubday.  It is a one day meeting and will feature overseas and interstate competitors.  This meeting is a small price to pay for members in that they miss practise for the first clubday, considering the revenue this meeting makes is desperately needed to keep improving facilities and begin plans to upgrade the club rooms and track.  What' more, the machinery on display will be spectacular.  The following rounds will be run on the Saturday of other club day weekends at Eastern Lions, South West and Todd Road.

Clubman SuperHeavy To Be Offered At Geelong Club Days In 2010.

In response to members requests clubman superheavy will be offered in 2010 on clubdays at Geelong.  Prospective superheavy drivers should get togther now and ensure a good presence at the clubdays throughout the year.

2010 Geelong Kart Club Membership Renewals

A very important mail out to all club members will occur next week being the 2010 Geelong Kart Club membership renewal.  This is of vital importance to all members in 2010 as unless your a paid up member of the club, your license will be invalid as of 01/01/2010 and you will not be able to enter any AKA/VKA race meetings which will all be using the new smart card system in 2010.  Geelong has already starting using the system as of the most recent club days and Val Findlay open meeting.  So when you get your renewal letter,  please fill out any updated personal details you have and send back to Dominic ASAP.  Cheque , money order to credit card only, no cash payments will be accepted under any circumstances.  Please remember also that with the keys to be removed from opening the gates and the implementation of a new eletronic gate system, unless your membership is paid up, you will not recieve an entry fob for the electronic gate.

November clubday in 2010 to be Club Championship Weekend

In keeping up with other clubs such as Todd Road, Geelong Kart Club will host an open meeting style club championship weekend on the November clubday in 2010.  This event with qualifying etc will determine the club champions.  The winners will really have to earn their status with competition expected to be fierce.  The normal clubday series will produce club series winners and focus on new drivers learning their craft in preparation for open competition.  Their will be one feature class each club day with longer laps and qualifying.  Clubman Light will be the first feature class in 2010.

Horsepower Heaven 2010 For Geelong!

The show stopping event of 2009 which attracted six international drivers is set to be run at our track in 2010 at a date to be fixed.  Horsepower Heaven 2009 which involved the Formula 100 Nationals, the Nationals Leopard Final, KZ2 and 200 Supers included trade displays and other entertainment.  The event is high octane, high profile and will once again attract international interest.  Dom Albanese is the promoter along with Remo Luciani and rumour has it that a junior class will be added to this years event, lets wait and see.  Along with the Rotax Pro Tour these kind of high profile events really bolster the income of the club and bring attention to our circuit, so lets get right behind them.

Opposite Direction For Geelong Track?

In order to spice things up a bit the committee at Geelong Kart Club will investigate whether it would be possible to run some meetings in the reverse direction!  This radical move will be considered after approval is granted by the VKA/AKA.  It would surely entice many people to race the "new" track for the pure curiosity of seeing what the reverse circuit would be like.  Anyway we will keep you posted on how things go with this little twist.  I reckon it could be a whole lot of fun.  What we would like to hear from members is how they would feel about this, let us know, email some of your committee members and let them know your opinion.

Free BBQ at the completion of November Clubday

-   All members please come and enjoy a free BBQ which will be held in the club rooms after the November clubday has concluded.  This will be a great way to end the year and is always a good chance to have a chat to fellow members about everything and anything.  Of course the bar will be open and there will be red and white wine available for the first time.  Should be a nice way to wash the food down.

There is lots of new stuff happening at the Geelong Kart Club as we speak.  Listed below is a summary of the some of the exciting new projects and also a smattering of information about other important information for members.

1.      The clubs magnificent new cafe quality coffee machine will be up and running as of September clubday from 7.30 am!  Latte's and Cappacino's here we come.  So remember to support the clubs new coffee facility and when you arrive all worn out in the morning, march over to the canteen and get a great tasting cappacino.  A fully qualified barista will operate the service with all profits retained by the club.  Its a great new service.

2.      The clubs magnificent new 86 seat grandstand has been ordered and will hopefully be up and running before the Val and Joyce Findlay Memorial.  For those who dont know, this grandstand will set a new standard for kart tracks in Australia with individual plastic MCG style seats.  This is a fantastic addition to the club and is aimed fair adn square at making viewing more comfortable for your loved ones.   Some of those family members that never come out just might be persuaded to venture to the track, we can only hope.  Anyway it will look great and once again stamp Geelong as the premier karting facility in Aus.

3.      The canteen kictchen area where our ladies slave away to feed us has just had the broken down Air conditioner that has been their for many years replaced and a new industrial style split system installed.  Should come in handy when its 40 degrees at the val findlay and the girls are cooking over hot ovens.

4.      After the Val and Joyce Findlay the Geelong Kart Club will move into a new area with the installation of eletronic sliding gates at the main entrance.  Paid up members will recieve a fob and the gates will automatically close behind you.  This is a very important development to stop non members using our facility and all access will be recorded.  We join Todd Rd and Oakleigh Kart clubs who already have similar systems in place for their members.

5.      Practise Lights - There are practise lights available for members to use beside the out grid which time the lenght of practise sessions seven days a week.  These have been installed to ensure all groups of drivers have equal practise sessions and a fair amount of track time.  Please use the system at all times.  Please feel free to contact members of the committee to ask about the system and if you are unsure how to use them, ask and find out.  They are similar to the system which Todd Rd introduced last year.

6.      A series of digital screens will be erected on the side of the starters tower along the main straight in due course and will be the new starting system.  This Australian first will blow you away when it is up and running!  Just another Geelong Kart CLub innovation.

7.      In late November all members will recieve a mail out being the renewal for club membership in 2010.  Only persons who are paid up will recieve the new gate fob which will gain them access to the complex.  Remember no membership equals no valid license.  Please pay your membership promptly and once again the club has elected not to increase membership fees for about the sixt year in a row.  And by the way membership is booming with about a 40 percent increase on last year.  Well done Geelong.

8.     Dont forget to enter the Val and Joyce Findlay Memorial. Supp regs are out now on VKA website, kartsport news etc.    Support your club and race or help out.  Remember every class has a free set of new tyres being given away to a random draw entrant.   Also junior clubman entrants get a chance to win a new ARC motor, random draw!

Remember any questions please ask.
